What is the Dental Supplies Procedure?

There are a number of options for replacing missing teeth. Procedures such as dental bridges and dentures can provide long-lasting, functional and aesthetic results, but only dental implants offer a permanent solution.

Unlike other tooth replacement options, dental implants are secured into your jaw bone. Once placed, your jaw treats the implant the same way it treats your natural tooth roots, enabling implants to provide you with a lifelong solution. The process of placing the implant and having your jaw accept it makes the placement of dental implants take longer than other options. However, the long-term benefits often outweigh the initial waiting period.

Prior to Surgery
Not everyone is an ideal candidate for dental implants. Working closely with an experienced implant dentist, the likelihood of a successful implant can be determined. Your dentist will need to thoroughly evaluate the quality and structure of your jaw. To do this, X-rays and manual evaluations will be performed. If you do not have sufficient jaw structure to support an implant, your dentist may discuss bone grafting with you, Bone grafting can help ensure the success of your dental implant, but will add time to how long your procedure will take.

If you are a candidate for surgery, your dentist will customize a dental implant plan that includes the determining number of teeth needing to be replaced and better provide you an idea of how long your full dental implant procedure will require. To place your dental implant, your dentist will make a small incision in your gum to expose your jaw bone. Once exposed, a small hole is drilled deep into your jaw through which the implant is placed. This part of the procedure is done under anesthesia, and should not result in pain or discomfort.

Once placed, the process of osseointegration will take place. This is the process of your jaw bone accepting your implant as a natural tooth root and can take up to six months. While your jaw is accepting the dental implant, you will be fitted with a temporary false tooth that works to protect the top of the implant and also provide you with some increased functionality. After your jaw has accepted the implant, you will return to your dentist for the placement of your permanent false tooth. This tooth will be colored, sized, and shaped to match adjacent teeth, providing you with both increased function and aesthetic beauty. The entire process can take anywhere from six to 12 months.
